THE WESTERN CANADA SERIES

Preface

Canada’s relations with the United States, her only neighbour. In this last section, it should be observed, fall many things — such as wars, boundary disputes, and reciprocity agreements — which, dull and uninteresting by themselves, become alive and significant when seen as part of the whole story.

The important thing in the study of history is not the acquisition of a stock of facts, but the development of an intelligent interest in the past of one’s country and one’s race. The author hopes that this book may succeed in rousing such an interest in the minds of the rising generation of Canadians.
