RedLectern

Community rules

A few simple rules for questions and comments on RedLectern.

Keep it about learning

Ask and talk about what you're learning: a concept, a book, a source, a course, or how to study it. This is not a place for personal stories, medical or mental-health disclosures, or requests for advice.

Be respectful

Discuss ideas civilly. Harassment, hate, spam, advertising, and sharing another person's personal information are not allowed.

Use short quotes

Do not copy copyrighted material. A short quotation with its source is okay.

Mark spoilers

If your comment on a book gives away the plot or ending, tick "Contains spoilers" so it stays hidden until a reader chooses to show it.

How comments are checked, reports, and appeals

Comments appear right away. An automatic check reads each new or edited comment, usually within a minute, and can remove it when it is confident the comment breaks these rules: spam or ads; someone's private personal information; threats or calls for violence; hate, or harassment aimed at a person; explicit sexual content or sexual come-ons; anything sexualising children; scams, phishing or malware; and offers of illegal goods. It can also clear a display name that breaks these rules; your comments then show as "Member" and you can choose a new name. If the check isn't sure, the comment stays up and a person reviews it. Criticism, disagreement and strong language are welcome, including about RedLectern. A removed comment shows the reason, and a moderator can restore it. If a comment suggests the writer may hurt themselves, it stays up and we're alerted. At busy times we may switch back to reviewing comments before they appear, and an edited comment that was declined is always reviewed again. Report a published comment with its Report control. To appeal a decision, use the feedback form or email corrections@redlectern.com. Do not include private or medical information in an appeal.

If you need urgent help

Nobody monitors this as a crisis line. If you may be in immediate danger or are thinking about suicide, call or text 988 in the United States, or contact your local emergency number.

Age

You must be at least 13 to post. Your email address is never shown with your comment; your display name is public.

Courses come from MIT OpenCourseWare, The Open University (OpenLearn) and TU Delft OpenCourseWare; each course page credits its source and license. Books in the reader come from Project Gutenberg, audiobooks from LibriVox.

RedLectern is independent of MIT, The Open University and TU Delft and is not endorsed by them. Self-study only: no grades, certificates, or credit.

Progress and notes are saved in this browser. Export a backup; clearing browser data can remove them. YouTube embeds may process usage data.
