VOYAGE

EN ASIE

J’ai cherché à écrire un Voyage qui eût une physionomie neuve. J’ai donc systématiquement évité de parler d’une foule de choses qu’ont décrites les voyageurs venus avant moi. J’ai de même passé, sans m’appesantir, sur ces points de la côte qui sont aujourd’hui d’un accès tellement facile que chaque jour nous en apporte des nouvelles. Ayant pénétré dans des parties intérieures du pays d’un accès pénible et par conséquent peu ou point visitées, c’est sur que j’ai étendu mon récit. Si l’on découvre des ruptures dans le fil de mon itinéraire, on voudra donc bien penser qu’elles sont intentionnelles.
