Preface To The New Revised Edition

The present edition of Ploetz's Epitome brings the record of events down to the outbreak and early days of the European war of 1914. The revision owes its completeness in great measure to several historical workers, notably Mr. David M. Matteson, who supplied most of the material for the years 1883-1903. The recent death of the translator, Mr. William H. Tillinghast, has thrown the responsibility of the latest revision entirely into the hands of the Publishers, who, besides having the record brought down to August 15, 1914, in text and index, have added a Supplement covering in detail the events of the great war from its beginning to the time of going to press.

Boiton, January, 1915.
