Первая часть повести «Два конца» в России впервые опубликована под названием «Конец Андрея Ивановича» в журнале «Жизнь», 1899, № 1, 2, 3. Вторая часть под названием «Честным путем» и с подзаголовком «Конец Александры Михайловны» опубликована в журнале «Мир божий», 1903, № 12. Начиная с 1909 г. обе части печатаются как единая повесть, причем вторая часть под названием «Конец Александры Михайловны» и с подзаголовком «Честным путем».
