Foreword

A volume on the subject of the Holy Spirit is not premature. No minister of the Reformed Church in this country has published a book on this theme. Very many years ago Rev. Lewis Mayer and Dr. Philip Schaff each published a treatise on the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

A book on the Holy Spirit is timely, because we are observing the nineteenth centenary of the descent of the Holy Spirit, and of the birth of the Christian Church. The desire to contribute toward that observance suggested and prompted the publication of this book. Moreover a strong sense of the need and value of such a book has long been in the mind of the writer. And many times he has been asked, if he would not print his talks on the Holy Spirit, and particularly his sermon on the Unpardonable Sin.

In the pages of this book will be found chapters containing the substance of talks and sermons of the author on the general theme of the Holy Spirit. That this book may be a helpful contribution toward the nineteen hundredth anniversary of Pentecost, and that it may be instructive and illuminating to every reader is the sincere desire and prayer of the author.
