A COMPENDIUM

Preface

not in any manner made tire science of medicine their study. The best testimony to the success with which the undertaking has been crowned, is offered by the eaiiy demand for this edition, which has been carefully revised, and to which many additions have been made.

A great variety of new medicines and new compounds have lately been introduced into the practice of medicine, some of which have ah-eady acquned pre-eminence by the beneficial effects which have followed their employment by many members of the profession distinguished for their judgment and skill. These have been added to the catalogue of medicines embraced by this Compendimn, and such observations on their value inserted as experience appeal’s to justify. Speculative opinions have been studiously excluded, the aim being to be jjractical and useful, the only legitimate objects it is pre.sumed of “ A Compeni)i0.\i OF Domestic Medicine and Companion to the Medicine Chest.”
